Newark Documentary Airs on New Jersey Public Television

Blackbird Media Group’s recently completed “The Once and Future Newark” debuted on New Jersey public television in early October, following a gala premiere at the Newark Museum. The documentary was produced for Rutgers University in Newark, and focuses on the city’s cultural, social, and historic treasures.

Hosted by Clement Alexander Price, a noted scholar of Newark history and a professor at Rutgers University, the video is an affectionate and engaging tour of an often-overlooked city that is home to more than a quarter-million people representing an unusually diverse mix of cultures, races, and religions.

“Clement Price GSNB'75 was walking his dog near his home in Newark's Lincoln Park neighborhood when he had what he calls "a wonderful civic exchange. A guy I don't know from Adam rolled down his car window and shouted, 'I loved your film! I grew up in Newark and didn't know the city had so much going for it,'" Price recalls with a hearty laugh. That spontaneous and heartfelt reaction to a new documentary hosted by Price, The Once and Future Newark, is typical of what the Newark history professor is hearing from others who have seen the film.” excerpt from “Revitalized Newark Subject of Documentary” By Amy Vames for Rutgers Monthly Alumni Newsletter

Viewers learn about the history of the city from colonial through modern times, about the social forces that have molded and changed the city as it progressed through industrial growth and the dramatic changes of the 20th century, and about the hope and promise of the 21st century Newark.
